Types of changes

Changes we can review with you

Whether a change is possible depends on your fare rules, the airline's policies, and whether suitable flights are available when the change is requested.

  • Travel-date changes

Moving your trip earlier or later, for one flight or for the whole itinerary.

  • Departure-time changes

Switching to a different flight on the same travel date, where the rules and seats allow.

  • Route or destination changes

Flying from or to a different airport or city, only where your ticket permits it.

  • Reviewing alternative flights

Comparing the flights that appear to be available, with the cost of each option explained.

Before you request a change

Understand the restrictions first

Change rules vary widely between airlines and between fares. Knowing the limits in advance helps you avoid surprises and decide whether a change is worth it.

Changes are not guaranteed.

Flight availability can change at any time, and an option is not secured until the airline confirms the change. Same-day changes depend on the airline and fare and may not be available.

  • Some fares can't be changed Basic or lowest-price fares, in particular, may not allow changes at all.
  • Timing matters A change usually has to be requested before the original flight departs. Missing a flight can limit what's possible.
  • Route changes are more restricted Changing airports or destinations is often limited, and some tickets don't allow it.
  • Part-flown trips If part of your trip has been flown, only the remaining flights can be changed, and different rules may apply to them.
  • Name changes are different Correcting a misspelled name is covered on our Booking Help page. Transferring a ticket to another person is usually not permitted.
  • Airline schedule changes If the airline changed your flight, you may have different options, including a refund in some cases if you don't accept the new itinerary.

What a change can cost

Each cost, explained separately

A flight change can involve up to three amounts set by the airline, plus our own service fee. We explain which of them apply to your booking before you authorize anything.

  • Airline change charge Set by the airline

A charge some fare rules apply when you make a change. Many fares have no change charge, some do, and some don't allow changes at all.

  • Fare difference Set by the airline

If the new flight's fare is higher than your original fare, you usually pay the difference. If it's lower, whether any value is returned depends on the fare rules.

  • Tax adjustments Taxes and airline fees

Taxes and fees can be recalculated for the new itinerary, particularly when the route or travel dates change.

  • Our service fee Charged by Travelz Portal

Quoted on the call before you authorize. A flat fee per passenger for our help with the change, separate from the airline's charges and not paid to the airline. There is no charge to discuss your options.

Even when an airline does not apply a change charge, a fare difference or tax adjustment may still apply.

Flight change FAQs

Questions about changing a flight

What's possible always depends on the fare, the airline's rules, and availability.

Is there a charge to change my flight?

It depends on your fare. The airline may apply a change charge, you may need to pay a fare difference, and taxes can be recalculated. If you ask us to make the change, our own service fee also applies. We explain each amount before you authorize a change.

What if the new flight costs less than my original ticket?

Whether any difference is returned to you, kept as a credit, or not returned depends on the airline's fare rules. We will explain what appears to apply before you decide.

Can I change the flight for only one passenger?

Sometimes. It may be possible to separate one traveler from a shared booking, but it depends on the airline, and it can affect fares and seats for the other passengers. Ask how the change would affect everyone on the booking first.

Can I change my destination?

Only if your ticket and the airline's rules allow it. Route and destination changes are often more restricted than date changes and usually involve a fare difference.

Can I move to a flight later today?

Same-day change options depend on the airline and your fare, and they are not guaranteed. If your flight departs soon, contact the airline directly for time-sensitive changes.

The airline changed my flight time. What are my options?

When an airline changes your schedule, the options can differ from a change you request yourself. Depending on how significant the change is, you may be able to choose another flight or, in some cases, receive a refund if you do not accept the new itinerary. See the U.S. Department of Transportation refund guidance.

Can I contact the airline or original booking provider directly?

Yes. You can always contact your airline, or the company you originally booked with, directly. You do not need to use our service to request a change.
